I propose a novel solution to the Santa Clara soccer field location dilemma. The City of Santa Clara and the 49ers could join together to create a structure next to the stadium – on the creek – that places the soccer field (dirt and all) on top. Present day construction techniques such as that used to create freeway overpasses carrying tons of weight (stable under seismic loads) could be used to support the roof/soccer field. The soccer field on top would be accessed from the bike path, etc. using landscaped pedestrian/bike bridges, ramps or berms and from stairs or elevators in the structure. The parking structure would be multistory, with some of the levels above ground, including the soccer field on top, and some levels underground with dedicated parking spaces for the soccer field! This solution, by its very uniqueness, is worth millions in marketing/ad value for both parties!
