When I read about racism in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, it saddened me. Mark Twain wrote it in 1883. Eighty-four years later, Lorraine Hansberry wrote A Raisin in the Sun, which conveyed African Americans’ struggle for economic freedom. Now, another 63 years later, teenagers like me see, feel, and hurt from a world that wants to hang onto its unjust beliefs. We feel the pain of African Americans, Asians, LGBTQ+, and other minorities, and to this, I say that it’s okay to feel uncomfortable, but this doesn’t mean that we are going to let this immorality slide. We are going to learn how to effectively fight the injustices of our community, our towns, our state, our country, and our world. As we continue to grow stronger and smarter, we must never stop fighting for a just, united future. The time for real change is NOW.

Santa Clara is the ONLY city in the entire State of California to have an elected Chief of Police. I contend that Santa Clarans don’t actually have a choice in selecting their Chief of Police.
