Classical Music Reaches Broader Audiences Through Digital Platforms During Pandemic – Letter to the Editor

Springtime is when classical musicians like me showcase the results of practice and long rehearsals. Every year, I look forward to the abundance of orchestra tours, season finale concerts, and ensemble performances that fill my schedule. This year, despite the recording projects I participated in, I was disappointed but not discouraged.

With the pandemic, artists are adopting new ways of expressing music, deviating from the standard concert hall performances. As a violinist who attended one of Alexi Kenney’s concerts, during which he performed Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, it was refreshing to watch him perform in videos, revealing a different dimension of Kenney’s musicality.

What struck me the most was how the use of digital platforms allowed a broader range of audiences to access, understand, and come into contact with classical music, which is often delivered in front of a live audience.
