Thanks to a disturbing local newspaper article on the toxic climate of the SCUSD and follow up letter to editor from Anna Strauss, I have been prodded from my inertia, ready to attend the public meetings of the School Board on scheduled Thursdays. As a long-retired school teacher, community activist and city of Santa Clara fan, I believe that I am obligated to “see for myself” what the (education) brouhaha is all about. On the surface, it all sounds like a naked power struggle with monumental egos front and center. If that is a misperception, perhaps eye-witness attendance will dispel it and clarify the issues…without name-calling and finger-pointing.
